Book the international Baltic Sea Challenge networking event in your calendar! The event entitled “Water protection in municipalities – it costs money, because it saves money” is organised in connection to the Estonian Municipality Days in Tallinn on 26 March 2015. The event gives water protection tools for municipalities.
Cities and municipalities are key actors when it comes to concrete, local water protection measures. Cities directly benefit from coastal waters, but they also have a high impact on them. There is a range of possibilities for cities and municipalities to influence the state of local waters, through measures such as waste water treatment and storm water handling. However, in order to prioritize water protection within municipalities, the way of communicating is crucial. For this, we need monetary arguments and tailored messages for civil servants and citizens.
The seminar will present new reports:
• Cost-benefit Analysis of Municipal Water Protection Measures: Environmental Benefits Versus Costs of Implementation (City of Helsinki, CITYWATER project);
• An Environmental Communication Strategy for Local Water Protection in the Baltic States (Tallinn University, CITYWATER project);
• Restoring Waters in the Baltic Sea Region: A Municipality Strategy to Capture Local Benefits (Race for the Baltic, partner of the Baltic Sea Challenge network)
In addition, several water protection measures implemented by municipalities will be showcased. Members of the Baltic Sea Challenge network will have the possibility to present their actions, if you are interested in presenting please contact firstname.lastname@example.org .
The seminar is the second big Baltic Sea Challenge networking event organised by the CITYWATER project. It is organized in cooperation with the Association of Estonian Cities (Eesti Linnade Liit). The first networking event was Cities Forum in 2014.
